This is one of the hidden gems in the city. However, it is quite popular among Japanese, because I tried to book this place for a couple of time and it was all full! Third time was the charm and I finally got in and I was smart enough to invite my Japanese friend to come along.
The restaurant was not that big and looked very plain. Seems that most of the tables are downstairs and majority of the diners are Japanese native. Like most Asian restaurants, they have two sets of menus: one for the foreigners, and the other for their country people who know the good stuff. Luckily with my friend, we got to order from the insider menu. And of course, it is all in Japanese and my friend said the dishes are traditional ones. So she ordered a variety of dishes for us, many of which you wouldn't normally see outside of Japan. I don't quite remember all the dishes, but everything was tasty. What we loved the most was, of course, the sashimi platter. It was beautifully presented and all the seafood on it was super fresh. There is, however, a catch: it was pricy. The bill for the 3 of us ran up to over 200 pounds.
I would highly recommend this place, if you are in the mood for some fresh and authentic Japanese food. -

What a wonderful experience! I have only eaten at one or two other sushi places I have enjoyed more! I'm only visiting for four days but I will be back!

A very good and authentic Japanese restaurant with menu in Japanese and real Izakaya food. We ordered a lot of different dishes to share and everything was really good. The sale was find as well. I totally recommend this place for people who are looking for real Japanese food.

I have visited this place with a bunch of Japanese friends.
If you are a big fun of sushi or sashimi (raw fish) it would be worth trying this place but otherwise I don't recommend here (Yoisho in Fitzrovia offers better food). I've ordered some tapas (fried chicken (tatsuta-age), dumpling (gyoza), etc) but they really did't taste great. I don't know what's wrong but I thought the food need more 'taste' (and flavor).
If I have a chance to visit this place again I would stick to sashimi and Japanese sake but it must be very expensive, I guess. -

This was a great find while staying on Maddox for the weekend. The service was very friendly! They seemed surprised that we found them and honestly, they are easy to miss as they are situated between two much larger and trendier establishments...but with over 20 years in business they are hardly an oversight in the area. The sushi and sashimi were quite good. When looking for Japanese food in the area, we'll definitely be back.
